World Geography

Course Description

Using maps, photographs, videos, charts, reference books and items from various countries. World Geography explores the full panorama of the broad field known as geography. Regions are studied and then are divided into countries. While students are presented with the basic physical and social geography of the region, special emphasis is placed on giving students a "feel" for the countries of the world and the nature of the people of a region as determined by their customs, religious beliefs, economies, and histories.

  • This course fulfills both TOPS and LA Core 4 Requirements

  • This course explores the culture, geography, traditions, foods, religions, history,

  • topography, and language of the many nations and regions of our world

  • This course is a good introduction to the teaching methods of the instructor and is suited for younger students who want a solid footing for later high school courses in history, religion, and science.

  •  Students learn how to read and interpret maps, charts, and graphs. A year-long project related to the student's chosen country culminates with a report that includes a display, computer pictures and music and food samplings.
